Dexys: To do, not to become

Das sagenhafte "One Day I'm Going To Soar" ist nun auch schon wieder knappe vier Jahre alt, auf die Reunion ließen die Dexys den Meilenstein aus Pop und Soul der leisen Töne nach weit über einem Vierteljahrhundert Studioabstinenz folgen und die Resonanz war euphorisch. Nun haben Kevin Rowland und Jim Paterson eine neue Platte mit dem Titel "Let The Record Show Dexys Do Irish and Country Soul" angekündigt, die Band hat dafür zwölf traditionsreiche irische Songs aufgenommen, am 3. Juni soll das Werk zu haben sein. Einen ersten Eindruck bietet ein zweiminütiger Trailer mit einem Ausschnitt aus dem Eröffnungsstück "Women Of Ireland".

Ein Statement zur Entstehungsgeschichte gibt es seit kurzer Zeit auch im Netz zu lesen, Rowland sagt hier: "The album is called ‘Dexys DO Irish and Country Soul’: DO it, not BECOME it. We’re not trying to be Irish, and we haven’t used too many Celtic instruments on there. It’s our sound. We’re bringing our style to these songs. I’m just a guy who follows my intuition, my inspiration. This really felt like the right thing to do. We have put probably more care and attention into these songs than we might have done with our own songs, because the odds were high. It was important to get them right, and make sure every one of them felt relevant to us.”
